I needed to find out how to do this when I installed TextMate and wanted it to be my default editor for certain files instead of TextWrangler.

  • While in Finder, select the file, and control-click to choose Get Info.
  • In the Open With section, select the desired application.
  • Click Change All to set the default for all files of that type.
